Sustainability and R&D Director at Wines of Alentejo (part of the Alentejo Regional Winegrowing Commission), Portugal, has a degree in Environmental Engineering from ULHT, Portugal, and a Master’s degree in Environmental Management and Policy from Lund University, Sweden. He has 21 years of experience in the environment and sustainability sector, having lived and worked in Europe, the Middle East and Australia. His expertise includes sustainable grape growing and wine making, climate change, pollution prevention, eco-efficiency and green buildings. Since 2014 developed and implemented the Wines of Alentejo Sustainability Programme, which coordinates and monitors the sustainability performance of Portugal’s largest wine region, researching and implementing best practices, as well as promoting knowledge sharing among programme members. He liaises with all stakeholders from across the industry, nationally and internationally. The project João coordinates has achieved national and international recognition through multiple awards.
